Stress-testing products or services

Stress-testing products and services for clarity and understanding

In addition to designing new interactive experiences, I also help teams stress-test existing products or services to see how clearly they communicate their intent to users.

Some products are not necessarily easy to use — but the best ones are easy to understand. Users may still need to learn, practice, or invest effort, but the underlying design should make it clear:

  • What they can do
  • Why they should do it
  • What will happen as a result

The same applies to services. When a service is clearly structured and easy to grasp, users feel more confident using it — and are more likely to return to it.

Using a game designer’s perspective, I help identify:

  • Where users might feel lost or overwhelmed
  • Where feedback is missing or delayed
  • Where expectations are unclear
  • Where complexity could be better staged over time

The goal is not to simplify everything, but to make the experience legible, intentional, and respectful of the user’s attention.

📝Example: You are building a new device that you want to make sure is intuitive and easy to use. We go through the steps and see if the user would understand it, and whether there are unnecessary or difficult to understand parts.
